Knowledge, Information and Society

A Rackham Interdisciplinary Workshop

Home: Welcome

About the Workshop

The Knowledge, Information, and Society Workshop aims to bring together graduate students and faculty across the University of Michigan who share a range of interests in the ethics and politics of information.

This range includes practical questions about the ethical, social, and political challenges posed by information and communication technologies (ICTs). It also includes conceptual questions about the nature of information and its relationship to data, facts, and knowledge. ICTs have transformed almost every facet of human life — from work to entertainment, from health care to education — as well as some of the most fundamental aspects of our social lives. ICTs have altered norms governing our privacy and the significance of interpersonal connections in a world of hyper-connectivity.
